no way to close Plasma vault

Wed Feb 21, 2018 2:12 am
Once i have opened it the files show up in search , but when i try to open it from systemtray it pops up password window. This seems to be a security bug. I am on latest arch kde

I'm using Neon User
for me a simple "umount" does the job
(as does a reboot)
there is no way--YET--to do this effectively from the system tray vault
for now that only creates and mounts a folder
also for now, the only way it seems to delete a vault is to edit ~/.config/plasmavaultrc appropriately and then delete the vault folder
hope that helps you...

UPDATE
The system tray vault now allows an open or a close action
To close, select the open mount arrow--on the right--and the vault will change to being locked

I am also having issues closing the vault. Reboot, shutdown nothing seems to close it. As far as I can see it is permanently open which rather defeats the purpose of having a vault.

Very likely this was solved in a later Plasma version, yours is not exactly up-to-date... you really should update your LTS version, see also https://kubuntu.org/news/kde-plasma-bug ... 18-04-lts/

Upgraded to plasma desktop 5.12.9 and itt made not difference. As far as I can tell the only thing Vaults does is to create a folder which can be accessed anytime just like any other folder

Again, you do not have the latest Plasma on your distribution, mine is several releases ahead of yours, so is abury's version, maybe wait for the next LTS to get a newer Plasma, or Upgrade to a more recent version.

FWIW: there is no reason for a single user to run an LTS version, this is mostly made for corporates in mind, where system maintenance is more work.

I have found the main issue.

I click the lock icon and create a hidden container then, after the process is complete, click the lock icon again. The container is shown as open in the popup box. Now if I add files at this stage they appear to go into a normal folder and will be permanently available. However, if I close the container and then open it before adding files it works ok. It would appear that Vaults is showing the container as open when it is in fact closed.

Anyway I'm using the container to store banking details and I've decided to user Veracrypt instead.

As nice as was the vault implementation--and I'm sure that by now it has evolved to a better version--it was cumbersome
I cut my teeth--in this space--back in the day with TrueCrypt so when it was forked...
I went with it and disabled the plasma-vault service
