Icon close tab / new tab

Fri Nov 03, 2017 6:05 pm
Hello,

I'm back to Linux (after several years using Mac OS X) and choose KDE as my default desktop
(I'm a fan of Qt).

I wonder if the idea of adding an icon on each tab to close it (like Chromium does) have been ever considered.
It will be a nice user interface improvement.

A small tab could also be displayed to create new tab.

Kind regards

I wouldn't need it. Pressing ctrl-d is much faster. As an option one could perhaps implement it anyway :)

Some people prefer GNU Screen also :D
but I think a virtual console in a GUI environment should primary be designed for graphical interaction (but shortcuts are also a good idea)

It can't hurt, especially if it could be optional. I'd make this enabled by default even though I don't need it, just as I don't mind this icon in a browser. The defaults should be designed for a beginner.

In Settings -> Configure Konsole -> TabBar, there's an option to Show 'New Tab' and 'Close Tab' buttons.
Note that these buttons are only added to the far left and right of the tab bar, respectively, not to the individual tabs.

Thanks for the tip that's good to open a new tab but that's not very convenient for closing an existing tab

I agree. It's not consistent with other tab bar implementations where the close button is usually in each tab (also that tabs may optionally be closable by middle-clicking on them).

Perhaps bring this up in the Visual Design Group forum to unify (and modernize) the tab bars in different apps.

In most of other KDE apps 'Close tab' button located on each tab, not in right side of sidebar, so strange that in Konsole it placed differently. Hope this will be fixed in future versions.
