Files management

Fri May 30, 2014 2:51 pm
Hello,
is there any description about how kdenlive manages files ?
It seems that each file is identified by its full root path and I had some problems in several situations such as:

1) Project on USB disk
I created a project in a directory located on a usb disk including video files, sound files, save files...
When trying to open the project from another computer, the first part of the project path was different and it was a mess.
Kdenlive managed to relocate some files, but not all of them (project file for exemple).
Many clips in the timeline moved (meaning that all the project had to be redone).
Is there any way to force relative paths for all project files (video, save, titles...) starting from the project directory?
Is there a simple method to transport a full project from a computer to another or from one location to another?

2) Title copied form another project
I created a title in a project and used the option save as.
Then I copied the file created into another project "titles" directory in order to reuse it and modify it into the second project.
When editing the title, it seems that it was pointing on the first project file...
How are the titles files managed?

Thank you for your help.

Title management

As for your second topic, title management, I actually may shed some light on it from my own working experience. When you open the title editor you'll find two toolbar buttons that are of interest to us: for loading and saving titles.

For my work, I've made a few titling clips in a project and then saved each one as kind of a template. Kdenlive stores these, erm, kind of title templates in a subdirectory of your Kdenlive projects base directory. I haven't yet tried to move them around except for one time in the past when reorganizating my files ... and had no problems.

So, in a new project I create a new empty title (don't use create from template!) and then simply load an existing title template from the title editor. Loading will replace everything that had been in a title clip, so be careful. You then can change the title according to your needs. Works almost like a charm, at least for me.

I'm doing all my titling this way and for this I've created title templates for a video's main title, location info including GPS coords, credits, and a few more. I then combine this with SVG-based premade titling backgrounds that I overlay with the video clips. You will see what I mean when you take a look at my YouTube channel linked to in my signature.

Thank you for your input concerning the titles.
Next time I will "import" the title from the "open document" button in the title window instead of copying directly the file from another project :)
