Hi,

Ubuntu 13.10
Kdenlive 0.9.6 (from Ubuntu 13.10 repository)
MLT 0.8.8 (from Ubuntu 13.10 repository)
frei0r 1.2.22 (from Ubuntu 13.10 repository)
The latest (stable) version of Kdenlive is now in Ubuntu itself and the sunab ppa does not even have 0.9.6 for Ubuntu 13.10.

When upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 the sunab ppas where disabled but I didn't care as Ubuntu 13.10 is now completely up-to-date.

Now the issue: I am working on a project and a couple of the clips are "flat", so I wanted to use the Bezier curve to improve it a little. However, the Bezier curve effect constantly crashes Kdenlive. I used it before, so I decided to uninstall Kdenlive, the mlt stuff and the frei0r plugins.
Then I reinstalled them all. To my great surprise the Bezier curves are not longer part of the effects.

So:
-during upgrade "something" was "cached" still leaving the Bezier curve effect as an option and making Kdenlive crash
- the official Ubuntu package has less effects (and frei0r plugins?) compared to the sunab version. I can't control if more effects and plugins are missing as I can't compare it anymore.

Questions:
- Has another user the same issues?
- Can I get "all" effects back without having to install the sunab development version or without compiling kdenlive and/or mlt?

What I understand from the manual is the bezier curves effect actually the frei0r.curves effect.
When I now check it, it turns out that the Colour correction effect "Bezier curves" is now simply called "curves" and that one is available

Nope, curves and Bezier curves are separate effects. One visible difference is the way you can control a specific curve: curves only has the beginning and end point with handles, while Bezier offers full bezier spline curve control.

Nope, they are the same effect. :)

I used to use the Bezier Curves for the same reason (Because I had the same idea) and I missed it.
But according to the manual (http://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual ... ion/Curves) they are exactly the same.
And now that I worked with curves I agree. You can make any (Bezier) curve you like in Curves.
If you run it from melt (melt -query or melt -query filters) you will see.

Hmm.
"according to the manual they are exactly the same"
I wrote that bit of the manual. And I say that they are interfaces to the same frei0r filter.
In $KDEDIR/share/kde4/apps/kdenlive/effects (e.g. /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdenlive/effects)
we have frei0r_bezier_curves.xml
Code: Select all
<effect LC_NUMERIC="C" tag="frei0r.curves" id="frei0r.bezier_curves" version="0.2"><name>Bézier Curves</name>

and we have
frei0r_curves.xml
Code: Select all
 <effect tag="frei0r.curves" id="frei0r.curves">   <name>Curves</name>

So I guess it depends on whether it is the tag attribute or the id attribute that defines what frie0r filter the effects refers to. I made the assumption that it is the tag attribute.
There is no reference to frei0r.bezier_curves a on http://www.mltframework.org/bin/view/MLT/PluginsFilters so this also made me think it was frei0r.curves
The two effects certainly look like two different interfaces to the same thing. :)

Good to know, thanks for the clarification!

Thanks. i didn't think of checking the xml files.
I can also see both xml files in /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdenlive.

Coming back to the first question (having kdenlive 0.9.6 on Ubuntu 13.10 form the Ubuntu repos): Am I the only one that doesn't have the Bezier curves anymore?
Note that after the upgrade (12.10->13.10) it was in kdenlive, but crashed kdenlive. When uninstalling/reinstalling on 13.10 the bezier curves efffect was no longer in Kdenlive.

So again: Am I the only one who has that?
