Transitions for edits in music performance videos

Registered Member
I have recently migrated to Kdenlive from Videopad, following a switch from Windows to Linux. I use the applications solely for making music videos for my YouTube channel of live performances. I sometimes need to edit out clips (eg, where I have done a retake for an error or a page-turn in my sheet music). The ideal transition for this is a dissolve that affects only the video and not the sound, so that the viewer is not aware of any change in my position while performing. I used to do this effectively in Videopad by unlinking the video and audio and doing a 0.5 second 'crossfade' transition on the video only - a very quick job, as there was no need to move and overlap video clips I can achieve the same in Kdenlive using the dissolve transition, but this involves moving the clip, unlinking the audio, creating overlaps and then applying the dissolve effect to the video only, but this is fiddly and can lead to unexpected loss of the video clips. Is there any quicker way of doing something similar, maybe using effects rather than transitions? I have tried very short fades to and from black, but this is too noticeable to the viewer. Any ideas gratefully received!
