Beat Meter/indicator (Audio Wave)

Sun Jun 22, 2014 8:07 pm
I'm trying to show the beats/wave of music with a video underneath.
I want at the bottom or the top of the screen to be a meter showing the audio waves/beats to music, while the video below shows a DJ performance

-I found a way to do it in After Afects: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6FOuC0g7_w

-I found the effect Audio Wave in KDenLive: http://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/Effects/Misc/Audio_Wave
In that same section it shows how to almost do this, but my first problem is I can't find--in KDenLive .96--the color selection effect.
From the above link, following these instructions:
Duplicate the video track on a track below the one with the Audio wave on it.
Add a composite transition.
On the top video track (the one with the audio wave effect) add a color selection effect.
Make the color you are selecting black and check the invert selection.

My other thought is, render the audio wave effect, and then put it back into the project, crop it and move it to the bottom/top?

Color selection is an effect in the alpha manipulation category http://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual ... _Selection
I am pretty sure it was in ver 0.9.6. It is in 0.9.8

Do you have a
/usr/share/kde4/apps/kdenlive/effects/frei0r_select0r.xml
on the system? Because this file defines the color selection effect.

I only have Blue Screen and Rotoscoping under Alpha Manipulation. I do have a frei0r_select0r.xml in my /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdenlive/effects folder.

I would do a re-instal or an upgrade to kdenlive then.
Because you should have

Alpha gradient
Alpha operations
Alpha shapes
Blue Screen
Color Selection
Mask0Mate
Rotoscoping
Key Spill Mop Up

I can try that but i don't think it will help because this was the 2nd time I've open Kdenlive. I just installed it since a format. Maybe I need to change where I'm getting it from? I just used the default repositories in Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon.

What version does that give you?

We are on 0.9.8 now.
You could try the sunab ppa for version 0.9.8

When I reinstalled I still got 0.9.6
I'll try their repository next.

I added the repository: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/sunab/kdenlive-release/ubuntu trusty main
I did a update cache (from Software Sources) (made sure if was enabled as well), and uninstalled KDenLive.
Ran the search for updates from the GUI.
Did a ran from terminal:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kdenlive
said y to download data
said y to install without verification
Open KDenLive, and I got 0.9.8 but still only the same effects:

Install Melt and Frie0r too from the same repository. The effects come from frie0r

I have Melt 0.9.0-3 Installed. I can't find frei0r in my software center or my Synaptic Package Manager.

LP-PPA-sunab-kdenlive-release/trusty has the frei0r-plugins package. So I think you should be able see it there. Try grouping your packages by source in synaptic and select the sunab source. Missing the frei0r-plugins package will probably be your issue.

Hi,

Just an observation, in the two posts above the last one the spelling of "frei0r" is incorrect. It is correct in the last post from ttguy. An easy typo :-)

I didn't notice that, thank you.

So....I feel silly. I typed frei0r in the Synaptic Package Manager and sure enough I got results this time (spelled correctly) > I marked all 7 I saw for install > Applied changes > Opened KDenLive > Boom baby! I have a lot more options now:
Alpha gradient
Alpha operations
Alpha shapes
Blue Screen
Color Selection
Key Spill Mop Up
Mask0Mate
Rotoscoping

So back to my original reason for posting this would the method from: http://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual ... Audio_Wave
From the above link, following these instructions:
Duplicate the video track on a track below the one with the Audio wave on it.
Add a composite transition.
On the top video track (the one with the audio wave effect) add a color selection effect.
Make the color you are selecting black and check the invert selection.

Or this idea of mine be better: render the audio wave effect, and then put it back into the project, crop it and move it to the bottom/top?

I'm very new to using effects, so I was hoping for some guidence. I have mostly done hard cuts, fading (video/audio), and a transition a few times.

I can't see why your suggestion would not work either. Your method is probably easier.
