more detailed audio form?

is it possible to show a more detailed waveform? cutting with the "new" waveform is pure horror, if you want to cut per beat...
If it is not possible #futurerequest

This is a problem for me as well so I made a little test, motivated by your thread and was glad to have found new info!

Here's what you can do to make your audio-oriented cutter life easier:
1. Disable ffmpeg for rendering audio thumbnails
2. Disable separate channels
3. Increase vertical size of timeline tracks

Demo video:

16.08.1

EDIT (not in video):
4. Increase track height even more: Settings, Configure KdenLive, Timeline, Track Height (you might want to delete unused tracks by rightclicking/delete their title area on t he left)

Just upgraded to latest (16.08.2) of Kdenlive from 0.8x and the audio thumbnails are atrocious!
Flat and blocky junk with no detail at all. in 0.8x there was a full waveform with a lot of details. Now all the detail is gone. It might generate faster, but what's the point if it's useless?

I tried disabling FFMpeg generation etc as posted above, but it only gets slightly better. It's still terrible.

Someone needs to fix this, like Pommes said, it's an unusable horror.

Can you post a screenshot?
What is the type of your audio source (format, codec, frequency, resolution...)?
Thanks
(and please refrain from using extreme adjectives, even if upset on your side, it will never help the discussion)

Thanks for your reply. Sorry about my over-the-top response, I get carried away with things...

Here are screenshots showing comparison between the older version of Kdenlive and the latest version. This is between the same project and same files.

You can see how the older version shows far more detail in the waveform. This is both at maximum zoom level.

The audio codec and bitrate etc don't seem to make a difference.

OK now I see.
The problem is that the new thumbs are a "power envelope" (matching other software look),
and in your case the power is rather constant (and weak), but the info you look at through the waveform is more a frequency change? This is indeed not available in the envelope representation.
We should offer an option to revert to the old audio waves, but too late for 16.12 (feature frozen).

Thanks for the reply.

I think an option to switch between the different types of waveforms would be a great idea! I hope it can be implemented in a future release.

Hi vpinon, is this being worked on? Is it somewhere in the tracker or should I add it?
