render error: unknown flag 'p' (Solved?)

I was getting an error rendering. The error was of an unknown flag 'p' when calling freeze. I was in the middle of writing a comment asking for help, when I "solved" the problem. I simply uninstalled freeze?? I'll know in about 15 minutes when the rendering is scheduled to complete if I really fixed anything. Prior to this rendering wouldn't even begin.

I'm running kdenlive 16.08.1 on fedora 24. My freeze version is/was 2.5.0. Both mlt/freeze and kdenlive were installed via the fedora software installer. I've also tried uninstalling melt, and kdenlive with the same error. I came upon the above "solution" kind of by mistake when I was trying to uninstall and reinstall freeze.

Perhaps this will help someone (or just confuse everybody).

I am getting the same error after updating the gstreamer1-plugins-bad and h264 and ffmpeg codecs.

Uninstalling 'freeze 2.5.0' did nothing to change the inability to render in kdenlive 16.12.3.

I have located the developer Robert who works at the Fedora Project, to see if he has a solution.

Here is the error message:

Code: Select all
Rendering of /home/lilzebra/kdenlive/projects/untitled.mp4 crashed

Unknown flag: 'p'; Usage: freeze [-cdfvVg] [file | +type ...] -c Write output on stdout, don't remove original. -d If given, melting is done instead. -g Use "greedy" parsing (1.5% worse, 40% faster). -f Forces output file to be generated, even if one already exists, and even if no space is saved by freezeing. -i Image mode. -t Text mode. -v Write freezing statistics. -vv means "draw progress indicator". -V Write version and compilation options.

I just upgraded to Fedora 26 over the weekend. I know its currently unsupported.

Deleted everything that looked like a Kdenlive 'rc' file, every kdenlive 'profile' file.

Still the same result, 'p' unknown flag error when beginning a render.

Is there a fix yet for this? I really love doing video editing, and have been "stalled" from doing any since experiencing this bug in early 2017.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You have probably a new FFMPEG and an old Kdenlive version.
Just for a try: Download the actual Kdenlive AppImage version 18.08.3. Run the Appimage from the terminal (press CTRL + ALT + T). Move to the AppImage folder and run the .AppImage: ./Kdenlive*.AppImage

Yes, just as in Fedora 24, in 26 I've tried using the Appimage version, only to have the same results as the .rpm.

Hello,
I don't know what is this "freeze" program and why it is called by melt?!
Instead of using freeze, workaround is to extract the frame and use the resulting image...

It took 2 yrs. to get it working again. The fix is to make sure the Melt Path is set to:
/usr/bin/mlt-melt

Rendering works again. Yay!
