Value Exercise

Fri Apr 11, 2014 7:33 am
Hello, just want a few pointers on this image. I've just started it today, spent a few hours in it and like some advice about which direction I should go in.

Hi,
thanks for sharing.

You need to establish the big shapes first and make the values work before moving into details like the little shadow of the belt or the character's eyebrows.
Don't be very precious with your rendering at the start - it is the point where you need to establish the big picture. A safe rule of thumb is: Zoom out the image until it is like a little thumbnail, or go back five - six steps away from your screen. If you can still "read" the picture, then go on and start rendering. Otherwise your image is based on very shaky foundations, and 10 hours of fine detail rendering won't do much of a difference.

Good luck!
