Welcome to the VDG community!

So whats this all this about?
The VDG is supposed to help the community first and foremost. The idea is to create a bridge between Developers in the Community and Designers in the Community. We will work our little hearts out to collect needs from Developers who want Design help and in turn collect Design ideas from Designers who have ideas for Developers projects - see us as the contact ads of the KDE community's Design work!

Who is a designer?
You are! See the core group in the VDG are designers, we work as a designers outside of our Open Source projects. We will contribute too (and do!) but this is not about excluding people or demand a test to join - you KNOW what you like. You know what brilliant ideas you have and you should tell others about it without shame or regret. Our job is to help out and guide your work so it follows the set guidelines but our job is not to put people down, its to lift people up.

You don't need to know the rules of design to apply work! You will be treated with respect, support and appreciation even if you don't know the terminology or the ins-and-outs of the subject.

Who can ask for help?
You can! Do you need design help? Post about it, tell everyone as much as possible in your post here. If you feel excluded or ignored - throw me a mail to talk more about why and how to solve it. We will try to collect "needs" from the mailing list as good as possible - but be a dev hero and post about it here! The idea is to avoid the situation where two designers are working on the same thing individually without knowing about it. So if you find another designer - tell everyone so people can collaborate. Its more fun to do things together than alone after all.

What else will happen?
Weekly there will be updates posted on the work done, needed and suggested. We will try to do a newsletter and we will make certain that all designers who have done work on a project gets a mention. This is more relevant than many think - but we will try to remind everyone to give a shout-out and a little love to the designers who helped them.
There will be information on the planned design form for Plasma NEXT and future ideas for Plasma's looks, forms, sounds and shapes. Mood boards, talk about "marketing" and press kits etc etc.

But wait, there's more!
We will also host short online courses and tutorials from designers and devs, from KDE and elsewhere, on design topics and more in the months to come.

Any questions... post them in this thread! Or PM me here, or talk to me on Google Plus (Jens Reuterberg), or comment on our blog (wheeldesign.blogspot.com) or email me if you feel more confident that way (jens [a t] ohyran [do t] se)!

Welcome!
Just reading through the sticky topics should do for a first familiarization. After that, feel free to jump right in, and shoot if you have any questions!
