Just my two cents. I think first of all, since you are working on a new package of icons of KDE. We should establish rules for the programs, so that there is consistency. If, as I have seen, for example, the icons of Krita will be monochrome, all icons of other programs, must be monochrome. And instead of the icons of launchers should be all by Acidrum pack, except of course those programs not kde.

Not necessarily. For core applications like dolphin and gwenview, I would agree, but something like krita has very specific needs in terms of UI and I think it's fine if it looks a bit different.

I have to agree with Scummos here tbh - as much as I would love to create a nice and ABOVE ALL easily accessible library of Open Source icons that can be used, edited and added to (what we have is not easily accessible, it's "accessible" but that's about it) which would serve as "the preferred icons"; plenty of applications are much too specific to tie themselves to that.

I'd like there to be first a "Basic Set" of simple icons, monochrome as much as possible, and then one or two variations on them presented as several sets of downloadable zip files but also in a presented kinda wiki-form. That, combined with a proper presentation of theme goals (as well as theme specs) would be awesome - but they should never be binding. The second we use a stick instead of a carrot to get devs to use things we've failed I think.

http://standards.freedesktop.org/icon-n ... atest.html has a somewhat sensible list of basic icons, maybe that's useful as a start.

Lets open a secondary thread with this! I mean the VDG icon dudes are working on this but lets do a community version, or start one and then bounce them back and forth or maybe sort it into three separate design languages.

kdeuserk wrote:What do you guys think regarding my last comment (removing the custom single color areas with the logo in it behind headings)?

Did you know that the title bar containing the logo can be disabled in the view settings? I personally prefer to keep it because it gives me a sense of no plain boring (just like Alvaro said). It doesn't give me the sense of a shareware because it's under my (the user's) control and it keeps the application of being an empty document with some numbers in it.

This proposal just seems like a lot of wasted space. I would prefer removing the title instead of this.

I'm sorry but the screenshots on the site are a bit outdated. This is no longer the case. In the current version the tile has a proper size and it integrates well with other color schemes.
Please, if possible, install the application (you can use this test data file) so we would not discuss about some possibly outdated screenshots.

I think this heading is redundant. In the screenshot this is clear as you have two words "home", one close to each other. This kind of heading is suitable to html pages but doesn't seems natural to native interfaces. Since the visibility is configurable, I suggest it to stay hidden as a default behavior.

I also have a logo suggestion!!!

The first time you runs the software, you have three layers before you can actually to use its main functionality: splash screen, a "tip of the day" popup and a initial setup wizard (also a popup). I think we should discuss those items. I think the first two should be removed because they are outdated and the wizard should be integrated to the main window. For me, we should avoid popups as much as we can.

I like your suggestion specially the way KMyMoney is written. The font and the line which kind of reminds me of a chart line.

I like the logo. Maybe I'd leave the gloss out, but that's just me.

About the tooltip, welcome screen, and startup tutorial:
- I agree with turning off tooltips by default
- Not so much with skipping the startup page the first time, as that has important info for a new user, and it's not shown anymore once the user enters information.

I made another version without the glossy thing.

Here's the svg file if someone wants to play with or use it as a basis for another versions.

I like it. Really. And the feedback we've been getting in our mailing list has been very positive.

A nitpick. How about the green color? I know the original KMM logo color is mostly green and yellow, but some comments in this thread were about using blue-ish colors for accounting images, and it's the KDE color after all
