I have an Inspiron 5577, not sure of the differences between yours and mine. I purchased mine last year about this time, so it's not that old. I installed Neon and it runs just beautifully. I have UEFI enabled so I can dual boot with Windows and I have Secure Boot turned off, but it works with it turned on as well. I actually turned it on the other day to see and it booted into Linux just fine but wanted me to create some sort of password so I rebooted and turned it off. I didn't want to be stuck with it being on. One thing I did find is that you can't install with UEFI and then switch it to Bios, or vise versa. Build on 1, stick with that 1.
