How to Disable On-Screen Keyboard

Thu Dec 21, 2017 1:40 am
My KDE neon LTS 5.8.8 just got updated, and I get an annoying on-screen keyboard at the login screen. How can I disable that?

I wasn’t able to figure it out how to get rid of the keyboard easily, so I decided to remove the Qt 5 virtual keyboard package as the form suggested. Big mistake! It removes some dependent packages which will break the system. >:(

The close button for all programs disappears, and you won’t be able to revert it back by re-installing the package! Ended up formatting and installing the useredition. Developers should make this function optional or have an easy way to disable it without breaking your machine!

Same problem here on the useredit. This problem is not infected with the sddm breezetheme.

go to /etc/sddm.conf and in [General] section add

'InputMethod=' without the quotes ,,,,,that is a capital I and M or if the line exists but as InputMethod=qtvirtualkeyboard just remove the qtvirtualkeyboard

I should have been more informative in my first post on this ,,,and do apologize to @fredhoud for your trouble

No big deal. There is always a risk that something could go wrong when you start fooling around with stuff. Come to find out on my other computer with the Neon LTS, if you ignore the keyboard, and simply type the password, it will login in with no problem. This way you don't even have to click on the lower right hand keyboard in order to get rid of the virtual keyboad. Just pretend it's not even there, and type your password!

In Windows just go to "Control Panel -> Ease of Access -> Ease of Access Center -> Use the computer without a mouse or keyboard" and uncheck the "Use On-Screen Keyboard" option and click Ok. Then, on the left panel there's the "Change administrative settings" options. PrepaidGiftBalance
