Hi,

Yesterday nigh, I accepted an update of the OS; seemed to be large, as many packages and apps where listed for the update. This morning, starting up the PC, screen image was all messed, lots of blinking, and very odd window behaviors. I could not work, and had to restart using the Mint partition. What could went wrong with the update? video drivers broken? Is there a way, I can go to the pre-update OS state ?

If you are using the Intel (xserver-xorg-video-intel) driver for the integrated GPU, try switching to the modesetting driver. I had the same thing happen with my laptop.

And, how is it done? I'm not that techy

Any way, not sure I will be able to do any adjustment, as because of these issues, I cannot properly see what I type, nor selections I do on menues or windows

OS
You have to either

Revert to an older BootEntry in GrUB bootloader

or edit Your BootEntry in GrUB.

Edit-Example:

My Current Entry:

$ /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg -version |& grep ^Kernel

Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/@/boot/vmlinuz-4.18.0-15-generic root=UUID=6440b83b-9ce0-4d8b-a715-6c67e5434e3e ro rootflags=subvol=@ nomodeset video=simplefb hid_apple.fnmode=2 resume=UUID=8e518044-87f8-412f-b874-f7ff8cabfffd

Here, I could possibly remove the word "nomodeset".
And then try booting the edited entry to see whether
this helps or not.
