KWIN Placement Policy Remember

Tue Sep 15, 2020 3:06 am
There is a new policy for window placement that remembers the positions and possibly window size for native KDE windows. While this sounds like a desirable feature it apparently has been implemented and overrides the default Placement Policy in systemsettings. For me it is an annoyance when I want to invoke multiple instances of konsole or dolphin.

If anyone has information on how to bring back the default behavior or alternative settings to override from the current Placement Policy please let me know.

I found this in the following bug report: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=415150 in Comment 29.

It is possible to disable the new feature, though it still remains on by default. If `AllowKDEAppsToRememberWindowPositions=false` is set in the user's `kdeglobals` file the prior behavior is restored.

same here, it doesn't seem to work ... extremely confused
several instances of dolphin, console etc. are arranged one above the other. Working with multiple monitors is hardly possible also when I save an app screen position w/ kwin, the app opens on the primary screen but the logo (splash) is displayed on another screen.
When working with several screens the primary screen is now ignored, all applications open on the secondary screens, everything is broken.

Did you try updating kdeglobals (see post above)?
