Cannot mount a CD-ROM in KDE 4.2beta

I just installed openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.2. I was trying to burn a CD on the new system, but neither K3b or Brasero would recognize that I had a disc inserted. I tried dmesg and came up with the following output:

cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0

This is with a blank DVD+R in the drive. Inserting a blank CD gives the same message. The only way around this (that I could find) is to run K3b as root, after which my disc was mounted perfectly.

In GNOME, the disc is detected perfectly (as normal user).

Any ideas? Is there a bug open on this?

What is the output of the command:
Code: Select all
groups

You must be a member of group "cdrom" to use CDs/DVDs

That seemed to do the trick. Thanks you!

Hm, I'm in the "cdrom" group, but I can't play DVDs unless I run the program as root. Any idea why?

Try the "disk" group instead, which will also allow you to burn discs
