dual head support

Tue Feb 10, 2009 9:18 pm
We been told that dual head support would take time to
get included in kde 4 . now, i don't know how true that is, which is why i ask.
I got a fully running kde 3.5.9 working in dual head, when i switch all i see
is one screen and there's a X for a mouse on the second display.

Are there workarounds ?
Anything that can be done to get dual head working ?

Thanks

Well, it would help if you told us your setup, graphic driver, KDE version etc. I've been able to use Twinview for a long time, running trunk (now we're talking about months).

Quite a few fixes went into KDE 4.2 for multi screen support. It is highly recommended to upgrade.

Multihead mode is still unsupported though which is the mode that the OP wants to use. Xinerama, TwinView, Big Desktop, MergedFB and XRandR are all supported modes.

Yeah, I have the 645GM chip, and 4.1 one didn't work, and I was going to wait till jaunty to install 4.2.. but I thought I'd give it a try. and It still doesn't work!

XFCE has better dual monitor support compared to kde or gnome. Sad I think. I might just be ignorant. But. for me to find it easier in xfce wether it is possible in gnome or kde is.... siiigh.

I keep on wanting to use kde.. but.. it's been failing me lately.

I remember way back, not sure which version, I installed kubuntu and my tablet worked out-of-the-box.
