Shortcuts KDE4

Mon Oct 13, 2008 3:18 pm
Hi,

does anybody know how to make the shortcuts work? I can configure them (i.e. Meta+O for Opera) but they do not work. Either in K-Menu-Editor nor in the Systemsettings.
Even Alt+F1 for K-Menu does not work.

My kde4d crashes often.
Any hints?

Using sidux erebos + KDE 4.1.2

Thanx and greetings

w.

The problem is that KHotkeys is somewhat broken in KDE 4.1. There is a redesign in the works for 4.2 so I think the situation should improve greatly for 4.2.

Must be a SUSE-Patch for 4.1.2! In Debian/sidux it doesn't work!
But good to know...

It worked on opensuse 11.0 as well, but only once.
As soon as you switched to classic style and back to kicker it won't work again.
opensuse spent attention to it, but the result is a little ...
Anyway, 4.2 should be out in January.

Nope. It's only sorta broken, remember? :shade:

Allright, I found a solution for the shortcuts under KDE 4.1.3:

Install the two following packages:

xbindkeys
xautomation

Then create the file .xbindkeysrc in your /home and fill in something like this:
Code: Select all
"evolution"
   Mod4 + e

"opera"
   mod4 + o

"dolphin"
    mod4 + d

"skype"
    mod4 + s

After that, link /usr/bin/xbindkeys to ~/.kde/Autostart.
This entries starts the apps with the Windows-Key (Mod4) - at least for me :)
If you're not sure which are the right code for a key just use
Code: Select all
xbindkeys -k
in konsole.
Hope it works!
