Strange Problem with Panel

Mon Aug 29, 2011 5:31 am
Hi

I'm using kde 4.6.5

I'm having a very weird problem with one of my panels.

I have an additional panel on the top of my screen. For some reason after logging off and then back on the panel drops a bit from the top and I have to reposition back up on top.

This happens on three computers. Could somebody help me to resolve this please

Can you provide a screenshot of the problem?

are you using the fancy panel? the author states "Note that included panel was made only for test and could make various problems, use it on your own risk (I'll focus on it later)" see http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Fa ... tent=99737

try using an empty panel with the fancy tasks widget, the functionality should pretty much be the same (identical even).

It's just an empty panel with app icons on it and a spacer to hold them all in place.

Does this behavior appear if you set up panels with another user account?

No it doesn't.... However....

After doing some digging and some more careful observation I saw that the settings are simply not getting saved on exit (checkked out if restore session was checked). A little more digging and I found this article:

viewtopic.php?f=66&t=87302

I found out that plasma-desktop is producing an error when exiting:

kquitapp plasma-desktop

These are just warnings, they shouldn't affect Plasma's saving. I think that your configuration file got corrupted somehow.

Normally Plasma saves files at regular intervals, or at shutdown. THe files are KDEHOME/share/config/plasma-desktoprc e KDEHOME/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc.
KDEHOME is usually .kde or .kde4 depending on the distro. Notice that if you want to touch these files, you must do so while Plasma is not running, and that deleting/moving them will make you lose any configuration.

Broke down and deleted all the plamsa related files in config and started to reconfig my desktop. I've done this with 2 of the 3 computers that I have KDE running on. hmmmm

I'm getting somewhat bored by the fact that I need to recreate my desktop every so often.

This should not be the way (in fact, it's not recommended) unless the configuration files are so corrupted that there's no other way out.

I have a similar issue on 2 systems, after every logout I get the following panel appearence:

The issue exists in KDE 4.7.1 and 4.7.2 and also after deleting *plasma in ~/.kde4/share/config and recreating the panels.
