Where's the progress bar in Dolphin

Fri Feb 24, 2012 12:35 pm
In a previous version of KDE, I used to see a progress bar pop up showing me, the erm progress of a file transfer.

The later versions of KDE, not sure which version it started in, has now moved this to the info widget on the task bar.

Whilst i'm not particularly happy about this, I can live with it. What if I am using Colibri to show me status's and remove the default KDE widget, I see no progress indication at all.

Is there any setting I can change to get the progress bar back?
Is there any way for this info widget to remember its state for the next time. If I open up the widget and expand the operation, I see the transfer rate and progress. But I have to do it again next time.

It's because you use the Icon Tasks widget (for the taskbar).

Try to right-click on the Notifications icon in system tray (looks like an (i)) -> Notifications Settings -> make sure "File transfers and other jobs" is checked.

There's also a bug in 4.8 that the popup isn't shown if the Notifications widget is hidden, Bug #290616.

If "File transfers and other jobs" is unchecked then the standard dialog which had a progress bar should show up. I found however that after unchecking that setting I did need to logout and log back in for it to kick in.

If it still does not kick in, then try running the following:
Code: Select all
killall kuiserver && kuiserver &

If that fixes the issue, then please file a bug report at bugs.kde.org - as Plasma should not disable the display of the progress bar if it is not providing the functionality (and it should toggle at runtime properly as well, but that is another issue)
