Problem With CSV Import

Mon May 18, 2020 11:55 pm
I have a problem importing a 6 column CSV file that opens correctly in Excel, Google Sheets and another budget app that I use. When I use kmymoney to import I get both the date and payee information together in column 1 separated by a comma. Also kmymoney creates many more columns than in the original CSV which is a Bank download from my checking account.
I am new to kmymoney and would appreciate any feedback to to help me solve this import problem.

Thanks,

Derek

I am far from an expert with KMyMoney, however your problem would appear to be with the separators chosen when importing. Did you go through the set up for CSV import? There is a wizard that can walk you through it, and it will show you how it parses the CSV so you can change it there prior to the import.

arnicolini,

Thanks for your response. I tried to use the CSV Wizard but it would not let me change the field delimiter from colon to comma. I also experienced kmymoney crashed if I interacted with the CSV file on a second monitor.
Bottom line, I am still getting the two columns Date and Payee from the CSV file combined in column 1 of the kmymoney import.

Did you take a look at the KMyMoney manual section covering the CSV importer? Choosing the right field delimiter should make a difference. If you still have trouble, past one or two anonymized lines here and we'll take a look.

ipwizard,

Thanks for your offer to review my CSV file. However, I was convinced that my CSV file was OK because it could be imported perfectly into other apps.

I uninstalled my existing version 4.8.0 and installed version 5.0.6-8.1. Now the CSV Wizard imports perfectly.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Derek
