[KHotKeys] Directory shortcuts

Sun Jun 21, 2009 10:17 pm
Please take a look to http://www.protonfx.com/dirkey/, there is a tool named "Dirkey":
Dirkey is a small utility that enables you to define bookmarks for folders and go back to these bookmarked folders from within File Open/Save dialogs and Windows Explorer. You can set and go to these bookmarks using your keyboard or your mouse. When Dirkey is active you can press Ctrl+Alt+0..9 in e.g. an Open/Save File dialog and a bookmark will be set on the current folder. You can go to any bookmarked folder by using Ctrl+0..9 in the same or another supported window. All bookmarks are global and are preserved when you turn your computer off. You can also open bookmarked folders in a new Explorer window.

It would be a very nice feature for KDE, too. :-)

There is(in KDE4) this feature. You can add bookmarks in Dolphin.

In open/save dialogs too?
You can use places sidebar, might be it is worth to add a access to "regular" bookmarks?

Like by auto adding Favorites folder containing shortcuts to real folders. It would be easy to do, just add shortcuts to ./kde4/shortcuts folder when adding bookmark :) When add that folder to "places" :D

see this idea. to expand on it, not only dolphin should be able to use those alias names, but every file dialog as well.

Gnome also displays bookmarks under places in file dialogues. Simple, good idea.

As distinct from Dolphin "Places" or bookmarks, Dirkey uses temporary shortcuts.

A little sample:
In Kate's save dialog you go into any directory, press CTRL+Shift+0 (e.g.). Now you starts Dolphin, press CTRL+0 and Dolphin changes directory to the selected one, defined in Kates save dialog.

Its easier as any bookmark. ;-)
