[Plasma] Mount on sight

Sun Mar 29, 2009 4:21 pm
It would be nice to have a configurable list (empty by default) to which you can add storage volumes (i. e. an external HDD).
Every device on that list is automatically mounted as soon as the Device Notifier notices that it's plugged in. (This is not like the /etc/fstab, because all the devices there are only mounted if plugged in during the bootup process).

PS: Instead of the Device Notifier Widget, this could also be put in the KDE4 systemsettings.

You posted your idea three times, so other two ideas were sent to duplicate ideas.

This is one of the things that is really really annoying compared to KDE 3.5.10. The code to fix it is out there, for some reason noone ever put it into the KDE trunk. I really expected this to be in KDE-4.2.

Check out the fixed plasma applet here:

Sorry for the duplicates..Seems like konqueror had a problem with the board software. When I clicked »Submit«, an error message appeared and I was unsure if the idea was sent.

@Moritz:
Thanks, I need to try it out..but I agree, it really should be integrated into KDE trunk.

According to einar, there's a new notifier in kdereview that might be included in 4.3. Hopefully it has automount as an option.

KDE has this now.

Man is the lowest-cost, 150-pound, nonlinear, all-purpose computer system which can be mass-produced by unskilled labor.
