RE: 4.2 crashes on 865G chipset

Thu Jan 22, 2009 7:04 am
Could you please post the output of "glxinfo" as well please? Also: are other 3D applications such as Google Earth, Tux Racer, etc. affected by this as well? This sounds like 3D is not enabled and X is crashing when KWin tries to use it.

You could also try switching to using XRender by changing to the "Advanced" tab in "Desktop Effects", and set the compositing type to "XRender" if it is OpenGL.

if i try to use xrender i get this error and effects are disabled again

Image

when glxgears is in small window cpu is 70 % load (46 glxgears + 15 x + 8 krunner / plasma)

when glxgears is in large window cpu is 40 % load (17 glxgears + 13 x + 8 krunner / plasma) (aint it should be the other way ??)

What about other 3D applications? If they are not affected then it is a KWin bug, otherwise it is a bug in your graphics driver.

Zarin can probably tell you which information is required for a bug report of this nature, and how to get it.

I am uncertain to what information would be required to report to the Intel developers. I guess just attach everything that was in your first post and submit it to the "Driver/intel" component on http://bugs.freedesktop.org/ .

i have the exact same setup on a laptop with intel GMA950 (works with same intel driver) and it works fast and effects work ok

If X crashes and takes you back to login then it's a X/driver problem, not KWin. A KWin crash will just remove your decorations.
