Hello there,
just upgraded to kubuntu 9.04 with KDE 4.22 ... and now I am facing a problem a saw with 8.10, too ... but I forgot how to resolve it. And maybe there is a good explanation around for this; and by talking about it I will remember for the future. ==> I got a usb headset plugged into my docking station; and it is working fine for me. I can see it in the "system settings"->"multimedia" panel ... and I configured ALL Audio Output/Capture device prefences to "prefer" my headset. (and with kmixer, I enabled the "auto gain control" for the headset) So, when I start amorak to listen to MP3s ... sound from the headset. Fine. But for any video inside a browser (opera/firefox/konquerer) ... sound keeps coming from my laptop speakers. Same for notification sounds from applications like Lotus Notes (not that I care about that; but the video sound is annoying). So, what is missing? |

Have a look at This page.
At the bottom there's some info on setting the default sound device that may help. :shade:

It says there: External soundcards If you have an external soundcard (e.g. a USB sound device) you will have to explicitly select it as default. (asoundconf set-default-card "name of soundcard") where your "name of soundcard" is seen in square braces in the output of: (cat /proc/asound/cards) The later one says: 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel at 0xfe220000 irq 17 1 [default ]: USB-Audio - C-Media USB Headphone Set C-Media USB Headphone Set at usb-0000:00:1a.7-4.1, full speed So, the headset is already the default. |

Try
and reboot. If that doesn't help look here for another way to try.
