KDE 4.2: disable balloon tooltips?

Wed Feb 11, 2009 1:28 am
Guys, I've searched these forums and Google, but can't find the solution, so perhaps I'm using the wrong search terms. Sorry if that's the case.

Can anyone running KDE 4.2 tell me how to disable those big tooltip balloons that pop up when your mouse hovers over the KickOff button, the New Device Notifier, the Pager, and the Clock/Calendar?

I've looked everywhere that I can think of to look, but have not been able to find any option to turn them off.

Thanks for any solutions!

I do not believe at the moment Plasma offers a way to turn these off. You may wish to file a feature request.

Thanks for the reply, bcooksley.

I was afraid that might be the case, but it's seems odd that they'd give us the ability to turn off other tooltips, but not those. I'm not fond of them so might file the feature request even they should know and understand that not all users will want them popping up all the time.

Thanks again for your help! :)

This has been possible for a while. Open System Settings > Workspace Behaviour > Workspace. Uncheck "Show Information Tips".

Is there any way in 4.8 to selectively disable the Information Tips? I would to keep the tips for my gmail plasmoid but disable them for the Picture Frame plasmoid.

As far as I am aware, this is not possible - except for the Task Manager. Whilst it is possible to set this programatically - the option is not offered in most cases.

(the Plasma philosophy is to centralise settings and minimise the amount of configuration needed through sensible defaults and alternative applets to carry out different methods of operation)
