It seems to bee a very new bug shipped with one of the last updates for kubuntu 8.10
Does anybody know anything about this? even when i minimize kontact to tray and maximize it again by clicking on the trayicon it forgets its windowsize.. same for dolphin, amarok2 and the other apps .. its not just the window size its the position of panels or other options like splitscreen etc. too.

i just want to know if its distribution or kde spezific or if its just my own machine?

I'm running KDE4 on Ubuntu (I know eh? I wanted to try it out, and I liked it, but I don't want to make a new install for it, at least not until 4.2....) and I'm not having you're problem. So, its not a KDE issue, and its not an Intrepid issue. That means its probably a configuration issue. Maybe your settings folders have been assigned root ownership? Other than that, is you're hardware fully compatible? Are you having any I/O problems, read-write errors? Maybe someone who's actually using Kubuntu is having the same problem...

Well, I get that in Amarok2 (and it that case, I chalk it down to it still being beta) but not otherwise. Oh, and this is using OpenSUSE, KDE 4.1.73, so if it had been only that app it's not distro-specific. I would check if you have write-access to the settings-files as the first port of call.

Oke .. reviewed ALL permissions.. there is no permisson problem.. dolphin somehow rememberes again if i want to see hidden files or not etc. amarok2.. ok.. its beta software (project neon) .. but kontact is interesting... i have allways enabled the tray icon.. i can reproduce this behaviour on other machines with kubuntu 8.10. (first maximized then quit) it reopens maximized as it should.... when i minimize it to tray and then again maximize it it there are different ways of how it appears.. sometimes it wipes out of the taskbar and sometimes it just zooms in from desktop.. everytime it appears it is a small window in the upper left of the screen and then seems to recognize "uh.. i have to be maximized" and then goes to maximized view.. and sometimes it just does't.... not a big deal but it is a new behaviour at leas on my desktop so i found it interesting... same for ktorrent.. and it has nothing to do with desktop effects.
