Request yakuake/quake-like toggle functionality for all windows.

We can already raise a window by setting a window shortcut via..
window context menu>Advanced>Set Window Shortcut

However, this functionality can be made more "usable" by introducing a the ability to hide it using the same key. This is what makes yakuake/quake terminals so accessible for easy monitoring without disrupting workflow.

Imagine you have konsole buried among a million other windows. Pressing tilda enables you to raise it. To go back to the previous window, you have to alt-tab. This is comparatively slower especially for monitoring. Worse, this messes up your alt-tab simply because you decide to glance at your terminal.

I have raised this as a feature below but was ultimately rejected as a "featuritis".

However, its only probably because I hadn't placed my case well enough and also due to the lack of votes/support.

What do you guys think?

That'll suffice but it's easier to just make it the default since the function will not conflict.

If more support is shown, we might get this approved by majority vote.

lol "featuritis" in KDE.. KDE which has features/options coming out the wazoo already - especially kwin. Do KDE developers have a natural inherent immunity to such a virus that we don't know about?

onguarde, if all this does is emulate taskbar clicking, as you said there's no need to add any new actions. Just make the Application Shortcut minimize instead if it's pressed while that application is active. I don't see any need to add any new boxes, options, actions etc in this case because there's no reason you'd be pressing the Application Shortcut again after your application is already active, anyway.

Probably all that yakuake and returning to previous view [as opposed to just minimizing] talk helped put the wrong idea out.

I like it. And It's probably very simple [especially compared to scripting it, which I'm not sure is even possible with KDE-dbus features now or yet, anyway].

I'm glad you agreed. Regarding the "no reason" part, when you press the shortcut again when it is active, you're actually minimising it again. I guess that is what is meant by the checkbox to minimise it as well as the default of activating it. But true, might as well make it the default.

Is there any way to actually get more people to see this? I'm sure a lot more would like something like this. Maybe I should post this in the yakuake mailing list or sth.

I have one question to KDE Devs. Why windows manager still using menu instead of configuration/option dialog. I would create Windows manager which integrates windows list onto window manager. I would like to place windows list/etc in place of window menu.

There are some problems which X or other window managers?

This thread is a bit dated, but apparently the request isn't!

One suggestion would be to look into KWin Scripting to write your own script to do that. Examples of other KWin scripts can be found in the kde store.

I like it as a general shortcut, not app specific. Even more, why not trigger send-to-back or bring-to-front applications on a per monitor basis? The end result would allow you to cycle through the apps open on a display.

I think this would be a useful feature.

I have tried to emulate it with the activation shortcut in KWIn, but it doesn't work as intended (it works with WIndow title and with application but not with class or specific combinations of settings).
I placed the "Minimize Window" shortcut next to the (few) activation settings, and I almost have it!

Still it would be better to have a toggle shortcut.

Among other things it allows me to use konsole as a kind of pop-up terminal, for note taking programs etc. I read in the handbook there was a similar function in KDE4 for Konsole but it doesn't work now.
