This is a bit hard to describe so I'll just post "screenshots" (Well I used my mobile phone because I couldn't really make a screenshot - The PrtScr key doesn't work when KMenu is open)
![]() ![]() (on these screenshots I used KWin without compositing) This only happens for a moment before the actual menu content shows up. Long enough for people to see it and say: "Oh, this Linux thing is ugly! I'm gonna stick with my XP!" It also happens when opening new windows, before the content shows up I get this kind of garbage. It was present in KDE3 too, but was not that noticeable. Also, it happens with or without KWin compositing or with Compiz. All the same. Apparently a lot of people are getting this. Confirmed on distributions: Kubuntu 8.04, Kubuntu 8.10, Arch Linux Solution (for Kubuntu users) and bug details: annoying-kde-glitc ... l#pid30099 (Thanks KFreak!)

I have Intel GMA 945 and don't have this problem witch non-composing KWin. Last time I tried composing Kwin I saw this glitch too, so I think it's quite common problem.

I only get this when I have the nvidia drivers enabled, with or without desktop effects, so I tend to blame them.

Same problem here, regardless of compositing, on a GeForceGo 7300 and Radeon 9200, Kubuntu Intrepid, KDE 4.1.2
Can't remember where I read this is fixed in 4.2
Running Kubuntu Jaunty (9.04) on:
Laptop -> Toshiba Satellite A200-14D, Intel Core Duo T2350 (@1.86GHz), 1GB DDR2 (667MHz) RAM, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 256MB Desktop -> Intel Pentium 4 (@2.4 Ghz), 1GB DDR-400, ATI Radeon 9200 128MB |

I too have had this problem, with and without compositing, on my desktop (at least a few months ago; at college now so desktop inaccessible) with an Intel 82G33 and driver version 2.1.1.

I also have those problems on both my mobile computer aand desktop computer, both using nvidia graphic cards.
Well, unfortunately, not much we can do appart from waiting for nvidia to provide good drivers. And my next computer willlll have an ATI graphic card.

No, this is not a nvidia only problem. I have the same problem on a hp nx7400 notebook with a intel graphic card.
However I can see this problem only with Kubuntu 8.10 (beta), Mandriva 2009.0 on the same notebook doesn't have this problem. |

Yeah, that's right. I have the same problem with an ATI card (200m on my laptop) using Ubuntu 8.04
