Hi,
Unfortunately my university switched to exchange a couple of years back. While setting up IMAP was no problem, SMTP never worked with Kmail. I kept using the old SMTP server, which was no problem. A description on how to set up SMTP on Thunderbird for my university can be found here. The instructions are to set the port number to 587, the encryption to STARTTLS (only TLS and SSL available in Kmail, I assume it would be TLS but I tried both). and the authentication method to "password". This one is not available in KMail, but for the IMAP server I'm supposed to be using "password" also, PLAIN works. It doesn't work for SMTP. I've tried almost every possible combination, but it seems it just doesn't work. GNOME's evolution had no problem with it, but iirc it support the exchange protocol. Does anyone have an idea on how I can make it work? Best regards, Malte |

STARTTLS support in Kmail has been asked about a couple of times before, including here and here. You might review those or comb through the forums to see if there is more information available.
Unfortunately I'm not any more familiar with this.
