Kmail - Openmailbox - STARTTLS

Tue Jan 07, 2014 3:47 am
Hi everyone.

First of all I want to apology if this is not the correct place to create this thread (I'm new and this is my first post).

Once said that, I'm making my question: Can someone explain me how to configure an openmailbox account in Kmail?
Because the thing is that I could configure with no problems a gmail account (I can receive and send emails properly), but when I try to configure an openmailbox account, I can receive emails but can't send them, so when I try to manually configure the 'Sending' (smtp/outgoing) settings, I can't see the STARTTLS option that openmailbox requires (I only see SSL and TLS options).

Here's the configuration information that its webpage displays (https://www.openmailbox.org/faq):

Smtp

Server: smtp.openmailbox.org

Port: 587

Security: STARTTLS

Login: Your OpenMailBox.org e-mail adress

Thank you very much in advance :)

Set the security to TLS (the actual name is TLS - STARTTLS is the command sent to tell the server you're using TLS) and everything will work. I have an Openmailbox account and works fine with KMail with that setting.

I thought that too and I tried it before coming here and posting, but when I do it, the following error is displayed:

Failed to transport message. Message sending failed since the following recipients were rejected by the server: xxx@gmail.com (The server responded: "5.7.1 <aaa@bbb>: Sender address rejected: not owned by user yyy@openmailbox.org")

Where:

1. xxx.gmail.com = My gmail account where I send messages to test my openmailbox account 'Sending' (changed to protect personal data).
2. yyy.openmailbox = My openmailbox account which I try to configure properly (idem as above).
3. aaa = My Kubuntu session name (idem).
4. bbb = My computer's name (idem).

My configuration:

General tab:
Outgoing mail server: smtp.openmailbox.org
Server requires authenticator: marked
Login: yyy.openmailbox.org
Password: my_ombx_pass
Store SMTP password: marked

Advanced:
Encryptation: TLS
Port: 587
Authentication: LOGIN/PLAIN (I've tried both, and it shows the same error)
Send custom hostname to server (in blank)
Use custom sender address (in blank)
Precommand (in blank)

Greetings and thank you for the answer/s :)

Apparently KMail uses a wrong Sender Email address.
Check your Identity Settings (Settings->Configure KMail->Identities->Edit) that the EMail address is set correctly to yyy@openmailbox.org there.

Also, Openmailbox uses Kolab, and Kolab will flat out reject sending emails from addresses that aren't accounts hosted there, unless configured otherwise.

I installed Thunderbird and, as always, no problem at all :P
I gave a try to Kmail, but atm I think I still rather TB.

Thank you very much for all your answers :)
