Hello everyone,
Is it possible to speed ramp in Kdenlive? I know you can change the speed using the Speed effect, but I was wondering if there is a way to adjust the smoothness of that change in speed. If you only use the speed effect, when you make the video faster or slower, it looks choppy and abrupt. Instead, is there a way where you can adjust it so that it smoothly transitions? Thanks |

Simple answer: No. The speed effect is not keyframable.
Workaround: Split the clip and apply the speed effect with different setting manually (yes, I know that's a lot of work) |

Just wanted to update the thread. As of April 2021, it's still not possible to keyframe the speedramp.
Shotcut isn't any better. Worse, if you use a manual workaround, it creates a spurious frame at the end of the clip when you change the speed, and it's a pain in the **** to remove it manually from each of the split clips on both sides of the ramp. |

Shotcut as Kdenlive use MLT engine, which can change speed only by constant value... until new v7 release coming very soon! Then we have to port to the new API to use this, most probably for Kdenlive 21.08 release (and hopefully earlier in development daily builds).

Hi there,
So, now it's late January 2022, 9 months since the last post. Any progress on this? I really look forward to speed ramping lots of videos once this feature is ready, because doing it now, without keyframes, just doesn't give the results I want. Many many thanks to all the folks working on this!! I see there's another thread with the same subject, viewtopic.php?t=169280 -- the most recent message there is from 6 months ago. cheers |

Hello!
It is now possible, it's called Time remap, you can add it by right clicking on a clip. |

Hello,
I'm using kdenlive 22.04 and so far, I am unable to do "smooth" transitions between speeds using the "Time Remap" tool... Speed is 100%. When the keyframe 200% is hit, then the speed goes instantaneously to 200%. What I want to do is increasing the speed gradually between keyframe 100% and keyframe 200% (speed should be 150% between the two keyframes). ideally controlled with bezier curves... Is it possible ? If not is it planned ? Thanks ! |

Hello,
I had never really looked into the speed remap that much, and i had assumed it was an actual speed ramp, but it does seem like it is as you say, you hit the keyframe and then it changes speed (which could also be achieved by just cutting the clip and choosing different speeds for different sections). But I don't know if i'm missing something since it says "speed ramps" in the documentation... I can't help with the questions though, but it might be worth making a feature request. |

I think time remapping still a work in progress. We don't have any kind of interpolation yet.
I understand you, we have no curves and no interpolation so nothing to do about it.
You and the documentation are totally right! It is a speed ramp and it works a bit well (bugs) but you cannot remapping the speed yet making for example an interpolation between two keyframes.
You are right again, that's exactly what it does for now. It is a speed ramp but it's like a wall... you do not slow down, just hit it. Love u guys |

That's definitely not a good idea I tested the speed ramp these days and I didn't think it was that bad, of course it's not professional and we still missing the curves but for fast movements no one will notice. If you know how to operate the keyframes you can grade the movement speed even without interpolation. |

I've been trying to figure out how to ramp up the speed gradually using time remapping, but can't figure it out. Is it still not possible? Seems like it should be as simple as adding one keyframe and a second keyframe for desired speed.
