I'm currently on kde3.5 but the last kde4 i tried (4.2 i think) also missed this feature, but apologies if its already in there.
1) non-shrinking The idea is fairly simple, have an option on the taskbar to not shrink when the panel is full but instead expand the panel. This currently works when the icons are already crushed (such as in a vertical panel) but not for small horizontal panels 2) icon only Does what it says on the tin, possibly as a separate widget/plasmoid 3)correct orientation when vertical If there is another way to get the icons then, it would be nice to have full taskbar entries shown vertically on a vertical panel (e.g not jsut icons on tiny panels)

It already does this for me, if I am understanding you correctly.
They are already working on it. See here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159480 http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/ST ... tent=99739 task-manager-allow ... 30840.html http://forum.kde.org/icon-only-taskbar-t-31451.html http://forum.kde.org/icon-box-dock-supe ... 32021.html
They are already working on this as well. See here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=168855

For 4.2.1 at least it appears to grow as large as it can before it starts shrinking text.
