Hello Users,
Currently all Kde applications are using Kde themes after installing whereras Gtk2 based applications looks ugly under our favourite desktop environment. What about adding option to System Settings which allows to use (If Gtk2 Installed) Gtk2 theme. From that what I know Qt 4.5 is using QGtk to change themes. I think that would be great to see something like that. It gives uniform look for all aplications. I know that there is QtCurve but it looks extremely bad for me. I hope you would like it. Thanks, Mazur!

Wouldn't it make KDE apps look ugly too? |

Saying that the GTK themes are all ugly yes.
But the Gnome users find them nice. So... why not ? Right now, GTK apps can use a Qt theme with the gtk-qt engine. But Qt offers right now the utils to make Qt use the GTK themes. And I think we should use all the power of Qt in KDE. Of course the Qt themes have more potential than the GTK ones, but the more choice we have, the more users will come. |

That's completely personal opinion with I happen to agree, but hey some might prefer Gtk look over Qt and it does give even more option to users.

From what I understand you only have a problem with Gtk apps. You do know that you can select which theme Gtk apps should use, right? All you need is gtk-qt-engine and the Gtk theme you want installed, then you can apply the theme to your Gtk apps from System settings - Appearance - GTK Style and Fonts. This doesn't make everything look the same, however, seeing that you're a Gtk fanboy, your reason for saying that Gtk apps under KDE look ugly will be gone. |

I was just thinking about uniform look and I am not fan of Gtk2, believe me . It could be just additional option but from that what I see nobody like it.
#up I did not know how to tag it so I just put [Plasma] and I was hoping that somebody will change it. |

I remember reading somewhere are Qt 4.5 supports GTK themes, so it makes sense for KDE to support them as well.
There are so many GTK themes, which seem to be easier to create and install then are native styles for KDE4. Some of them are very nice so we KDE users should be able to use them too

this is a great idea and even already partially implemented: quick how-to screenshot now for metacity theme support for kwin

Qt already supports drawing with Gtk in Qt 4.5, so all that needs implementing is the appropriate KStyle to provide the configuration options so that it will be displayed in System Settings.

Thanks =P. #bcooksley This is what I meant. The problem is also on Gnome while using KDE applications, you cannot change theme of KDE applications. |

I agree, i prefer some GTK style instead of oxygen.
For my eyes, Skulpture is the best KDE4 style. But this idea: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.ph ... ent=101283 is very very promising, I hope someone make that style for KDE4. |

I don't know why this has been voted so bad...
Personally I like the idea of supporting GTK themes in KDE. The reason: Currently not many native Qt/KDE styles exist, so having support for GTK themes would leave you with a much "broader" selection of themes from which you can select your favorite one.

My guess is that this is voted 'bad' because of the wording of the proposal. As long as this is about supporting GTK themes in KDE, it's OK. But the poster relly did a bad job writing it (esp. the title)...
As for the GTK in KDE, it appears to be available in the trunk. I've just went to SysSettings to tweak Oxygen a bit, when I found a Widget Style: GTK+. Though there is a need for an external application to set the default GTK theme. |
