I love KDE4, but I cant get my girl friend to use it. The reason is that it does not provide any good and easy input of Chinese characters.
Here are two things that I think would help here to start using KDE4: 1. A more straight forward language setup. The one right now is confusing to me. I don't know what "Install new Language" means. The entire system? Only support for spell check or input? What language do you want available on the system? What language would you like as system default? What languages should be supported by spell check? Do you want support for input of Asian characters? 2. A built in input-thingy for the Chinese language. (I don't know, there might be one in the Chinese version, but i cant find a good way to enable it in the default English one) I know it is possible to use Skim, or ibus. But they are very hard to set up and does not give the same user experience as the Windows alternative. She ask if there is anyway to get a program called SouGou, some kind of intelligent pinyin program. Again, I love KDE. Keep up the good work! Harald |

The first point (1) isn't a valid idea, since it doesn't offer a clear solution. I'll consider 2. as the idea and keep this thread open. Feel free to repost (1) as a separate thread if you have a suggestion on how to make it less confusing.
Regarding (2), there's actually an applet for this in kdereview. You can read more about it here: http://qiacat.blogspot.com/2009/03/kimp ... eview.html As you can see in the screenshot, it also includes a System Settings module. It isn't part of core KDE yet, but hopefully will be in the near future. I've marked the idea as implemented. Thanks for taking your time contributing to KDE.
