What if people are using both Gnome, Kde and other window managers with Kdm? Which session should be loading?

the same as would be after pressing enter key.
If it would be not kde, do nothing. This could be replaced by autologging and locking the screen, but this solution only works for one user |

That problem is that could load potentially private information into memory, or even the swap space, without having to know the password. It also would not work with encrypted home directories. It also would not be good if someone entered their username and password, then changed what desktop environment they were logging into.

For me (openSuSE 11.1) KDM is already started before all system services are started.
While typing the password the computer is very active and starts some less important daemons. So it wouldn't be a real acceleration. The acceleration is already done by those services. |

I sort of support this idea. I find that KDE is4 is rather slow at starting after the password has been entered. No idea what is being loaded, but it is quite a lot.....

This seems like a potential security problem. Besides I turn my computer on once a day, saving a few seconds is not that big of a deal.
