[dolphin][konqueror] color file and folder names in file lists and load/save dialogs
Tue Jun 02, 2009 1:21 pm
I really love the feature to color a file in mac os.
And I think this tiny feature would improve usability of kde further. From http://articles.directorym.net/Mac_OS_X ... 16185.html

There are some service-menues available on kde-look.org to do exactly this. I've used one for quite some time. Well, okay. Not files but folders. It may not be exactly what you're after, but maybe it's good enough. Another solution is to use nepomuk to tag the files and use customized searches to find the files quickly.

I was interpreting this is changing the background color around an icon, not changing the color of the icon itself.

The mac os function is not changing the folder color but it is changing the background color of the file name label (and in a list view the background color of the row or at least the name cells of the table).
It is looking like this (I think the video is mac os 9. Yet, it gets clear what the function is doing. It is a great way to organize your files in a folder): http://teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?vi ... ref=ramlab Just an idea: it would be nice to be able to flexibly assign colors to nepomuk/dolphin tags. The coloring could then be done according to file tags, and I could easily highlight a tagged subset of files. |

It's a nice feature and one that shouldn't be hard to implement. For now I use colored directory icons but it's not the same, as it works only for some icon sets.
