In new version of Dolphin (KDE 4.3) there is new Search toolbar. You can use it only when NEPOMUK and Strigi are working. You can't index all your files, and it would be useful to have this option when you are searching for files in non-indexed locations, or NEPOMUK is turned off.

Type file name and it will search in current folder, subfolders...

Integrate KFind into Dolphin?

Proudly dual-booting openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3 and Windows Vista on a Toshiba A205-S4577 since July 2007.

But then you've got two search bars, if I understood you right?

That sounds like a good idea. Perhaps use this as a fallback if strigi service isn't found running or searching in non-indexed location.

@sayakb
That's the best solution I think :)
and as fallback the idea is really good.

Yes, that's what I had in mind, or even a message "This location is not indexed. Click this message to use KFind to search its contents "

That would avoid a full-CPU-using search, but there should be an option "Don't show this message again" (and use the selected option).

Windows explorer does this well... after you switch the dog off. You just F3 and type the wildcard... I usually search for things that are not indexed because my file system is very neat and thus does not need an index. It's when i'm looking for some obscure configuration file or source file that I want to use search. I wish I could double vote this idea.

+100 :)
