I saw this feature on a Gnome desktop, but I would be nice to have it in KDE too.
Sometimes apps hang and you want to kill it. A widget for misbehaving apps can be clicked on so that you get a drag handle. If you drop this drag handle over a window you get information about this window and you can kill it if necessary. A right click show a list with running apps. Clicking on an entry will close an app (with force if necessary) Maybe you can use the same drag handle for unlocking files as well. It would be nice if you optionally can reserve some CPU power to this widget, so that it always stays responsive no matter what state your system has. |

I don't think a plasmoid is necessary when ctrl+alt+esc exists, but I'm approving it.
What do you mean by 'unlocking' files? |

With a drag handle it is easier to identify a process. For example there are three console windows open and you just want to kill one, this will identifies it for you so that your are sure you kill the right process.
The same for locked files. Sometimes files are locked by a program and you want to unlock it, but you don't know which program/process locks it. This could identify the process that is locking it and you can kill this if needed. |

When you press C+A+E, you get a "kill" cursor, and you click the console window you want to kill. As simple as that.
p.s. You can also add a shortcut to the 'xkill' commend to the panel. It will provide the similar effect to the one you want - click it, and then click an app to kill it. |

KDE 4.5 also has the "kill" runner.

You can also just click the close button repeatedly. KWin realises that the application must have hung and then kill it for you.
This is so intuitive, that nothing else is really needed |

If it is enabled (it is called "terminate applications") you should just be able to type kill to get a list of applications.

not working for me, running 4.6svn I see it in krunner settings and it is enabled I type kill (my trigger word) and I get "run kill" and "xkill" listed, not list of running apps |

That's a bug then.

I voted for this idea. In kickoff I typed xkill and there is only "run xkill" option visible. There is no icon as for any other application so I wasn't able add icon to panel (Kubuntu, KDE 4.8.2). Definitely a widget that would work like that in Gnome would be a good solution. What I would suggest is adding possibility to escape from this function by presing Esc button. Sometimes an application eventually starts to react and when we use xkill we need to terminate it anyway.
