OK first of all I have to say that I have no idea what I'm talking.
But AFAIK it does make sense to me, don't know if it truly makes sense. That's why I'm posting this thread. Anyway I saw a recent post of Ivan talking about making a Chrome like browser. So I thought the same principle is probably behind the Fluxbox tab system; you just XEmbed a window into another window. Is this correct? Is this doable? Does it make any sense? Here are some links that I think explain how I think this is done. http://ivan.fomentgroup.org/blog/2009/0 ... nt-chrome/ http://ksvladimir.blogspot.com/2008/06/ ... smoid.html

KWin already manages the X clients, so there's no need to "embed" them, as they would be external applications. At least, that's what my small X knowledge tells me.

I see, but I thought that this would enable the option to "group" together two apps in one window just like Fluxbox is doing it.
I think the best thing to do is to post link: http://www.fluxbox.org/features/ (under tabs)

I'm not a Xpert.
But I think it would be a task for KWin. Xembed shouldn't be needed or is Xembed used by KWin for managing the windows? Only a normal KDE-application would have to use Xembedd. |
